Forging a path for MedTech Innovation.
IQVIA MedTech had the privilege of attending the 11th APACMed MedTech Forum—held for the first time outside Singapore in the vibrant city of New Delhi, India. This milestone event brought together a vibrant mix of stakeholders from across the MedTech ecosystem, offering a unique opportunity to engage with MedTech industry leaders, policymakers, payors, providers, and investors. The forum served as a powerful platform to exchange ideas, discuss innovations, and understand the evolving healthcare landscape in India and APAC through diverse lenses.
Conversations were anchored in the theme “India for India and for the World,” reflecting the country’s deep-rooted cultural ethos of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam (the world is one family) and Sarve Bhavantu Sukhinah, Sarve Santu Niramayah (may all be happy, may all be free from illness). These principles resonated throughout the discussions, emphasizing inclusive growth, affordable care, equitable healthcare access and global collaboration.
With robust participation from global delegates and thought leaders, the discussions reflected India’s growing influence in shaping the future of MedTech. From policy frameworks and regulatory pathways to investment opportunities and manufacturing capabilities, the forum highlighted India’s readiness to lead in innovation and healthcare delivery.
The inaugural session began with keynote addresses from senior Government of India officials, who presented a bold and actionable vision for the sector. Recognized as a sunrise industry, MedTech is being propelled by a suite of strategic initiatives, including 100% Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in medical devices, the establishment of Medical Device Parks, and the rollout of the National Medical Devices Policy 2023. Innovation and commercialization are being supported through platforms like MedTech Mitra and Patent Mitra, while domestic manufacturing and research are incentivized through the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) and Promotion of Research and Innovation in Pharma MedTech (PRIP) schemes. A reduction in Goods and Services Tax (GST) on select devices aims to improve affordability and access. The creation of the National Medical Device Promotion Council further reinforces the government’s commitment to sectoral growth. The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) was spotlighted for its preclinical testing facility and a network of over 60 clinical research sites to support device trials. Additionally, the government is working to activate all seven National Institutes of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPERs) as hubs for industry-academia collaboration, strengthening the innovation pipeline and talent development across the MedTech ecosystem.
Government leaders urged global stakeholders to deepen their engagement with India—not just for domestic impact, but to co-create solutions for the world. With 78% of COVID diagnostic products delivered from India and a testing capacity of 4 million enabled by indigenous technologies, India is rapidly emerging as a global innovation hub, offering speed and scale for global needs.
Domestic market offers attractive opportunities like screening and early detection at point of care and new technologies for primary care sector, for tackling conditions like HbA1c, Anemia in women, vision care for children and fetal monitoring technologies. Initiatives like National Medical Device Promotion Council enhances ease of doing business in India.
As one speaker aptly noted:
Following the inaugural session the forum shifted gears with flagship Fireside Chat titled The India MedTech Opportunity spotlighting India’s emergence as a strategic priority for global MedTech leaders. Senior executives from Stryker, Intuitive Surgical and Fresenius Medical Care shared how India is now a strategic priority in boardroom decisions, thanks to its vast and diverse patient base, expanding healthcare infrastructure, and progressive policy landscape.
While challenges such as regulatory complexity and infrastructure gaps remain, the panel emphasized that success lies in building strong local partnerships, investing in skilled talent, and aligning with India’s vision of Viksit Bharat 2047. The session resonated with the forum’s overarching theme, “Swastha Bharat – A Healthier India, Together,” reinforcing the country’s pivotal role in shaping the future of healthcare. Several insights and opportunities were discussed amongst the panelists – such as Robotics expected to grow 40% over the next few years in India, productivity of robotics in India is highest in the world, Stryker investing in a new facility in India to ramp up Artificial Intelligence capabilities.
In addition to the Fireside Chat, there were ten Leadership Dialogue sessions held across the two days of the 11th MedTech Forum.
Day 2 of the forum featured a dynamic lineup of leadership dialogues that explored the future of MedTech through the lenses of innovation, investment, accessibility, and emerging technologies.
Across two days of rich dialogue and collaboration, the 11th APACMed MedTech Forum 2025 showcased India’s growing leadership in the MedTech space.
