Responsible Handling of Health Information in Canada

As with all members of the IQVIA group of companies, we at IQVIA Solutions Canada Inc. (“IQVIA Canada”) recognize that privacy protection is one of our greatest responsibilities, and we are committed to meeting these responsibilities every day. In carrying out that commitment, we not only employ a wide range of methods, safeguards, controls, governance models, and privacy-enhancing technologies leveraged throughout the IQVIA global enterprise, but also maintain a body of local policies, procedures, practices, and safeguards that are specifically tailored to our business and to applicable privacy legislation and standards in Canada.

Privacy and Data Governance Commitment

While IQVIA Canada always ensures its own compliance with the IQVIA’s Group’s many policies and procedures relating to information governance, privacy, and data security, we also elaborate and implement additional policies and procedures needed in the Canadian context. Chief among these are IQVIA Canada’s Code for the Management of Protected Information Respecting Health Professionals (Excluding Quebec) and its Code for the Management of Personal Information Respecting Health Professionals in the Province of Quebec, both of which are developed to reflect the principles of the Canadian Standards Association’s Model Code for the Protection of Personal Information (CAN/CSA-Q830-96).

Privacy is integral to our operations in Canada

Every member of IQVIA Canada’s work force, at all levels of the company, shares our responsibility to ensure that our activities meet or exceed industry best practices in the area of privacy protection. To that end, we have created and operate the IQVIA Canada Information Governance Council, which is a formal oversight body made up of key subject matter experts and decision makers from across our organization’s functions and departments. This Council supervises all of IQVIA Canada’s policies, practices, and procedures in the areas of privacy and information governance.

Improving the quality of care and research through effective use of connected health data

Healthcare-related research is increasingly driven by analyses that draw from real world evidence to reveal the effectiveness of treatments beyond the clinical trial phase. The success of that approach is predicated not only on the availability of the necessary data from various sources within the relevant healthcare system, but on the ability to connect and analyze data across different healthcare systems. The Advisory Boards serve to foster discussions and connections across multiple stakeholders that enable improved access to and usage of health data, in a responsible and efficient manner, to inform and influence the healthcare community in some of their most challenging issues.
