COVID-19: better therapeutics and vaccines on the horizon

Since the COVID-19 outbreak was identified in December last year, there have been 63.7 million cases according to data from the World Health Organization (WHO) at the time of writing. The concerted collaborative effort of scientific researchers internationally in developing vaccines and therapies to combat the COVID-19 pandemic is now seeing the first successes.

While the US FDA approved the first treatment for COVID-19 on October 2020 and a vaccine was granted Emergency Use Authorization in the UK earlier this month, this article will outline the latest developments of COVID-19 treatments.
