A boom in skincare culture driven by social media has led to more consumers than ever incorporating a range of body, face, scalp and hair products into their daily regime, creating a global dermocosmetics market valued by IQVIA Consumer Health Global Consumer Health Insights at nearly US$17 billion1.

In this digital age, however, consumers are bombarded with a constant influx of information across the internet and social media, making it difficult - confusing and overwhelming even - to find the right skincare products for individual skin types and conditions.

The responsibility to provide clarity and extend correct and relevant information to these consumers lies with the dermocosmetics brands for whom these consumers are the key audience. These companies need to identify and understand consumers’ pain points and supply solutions to meet the ever-changing needs and expectations of the consumer health dermocosmetics market.

Providing that clarity and reassurance is what Kenvue wanted to achieve when it engaged with IQVIA Consumer Health to help validate the medical accuracy of the advice being provided by its new Aveeno SkinCast webpage in Singapore and Philippines.

SkinCast by Aveeno2 combines data-driven prediction and real-time environmental factors - such as the weather, UV, PSI index, and temperature – along with a short questionnaire, to help consumer assess their skin type and then provide credible and tailored skincare recommendations along with lifestyle tips that would help them to maintain healthy skin.

Co-creating consumer engagement content with HCPs

Kenvue’s objective was to have the information provided by SkinCast validated by healthcare professionals (HCPs) to help drive consumer trust in the service, so IQVIA Consumer Health undertook two rounds of in-depth interviews with dermatologists in Singapore, from a mix of public and private sectors.

In the first round, dermatologists evaluated the SkinCast prototype and content, including the profiling questions, web algorithm, and recommendations. After one round, the updated SkinCast prototype was shared for further feedback and improvement.

Through the two rounds of refinement, IQVIA Consumer Health successfully helped the Kenvue Aveeno team to achieve content that is co-created and verified by dermatologists.

“The involvement with HCPs added depth and perspectives to the business, in terms of building their understanding of its target audience and ways to tackle the different skin concerns,” commented Delphine Keng, Manager, Primary Intelligence at IQVIA Consumer Health. “Moreover, HCPs serve as a credible source of information that would build consumers’ trust and confidence in Aveeno and support long-term product usage.”

It also presents an opportunity to educate our consumers on which Aveeno products best address their needs. Therefore, working with IQVIA on this study has helped us achieve that goal

“SkinCast is designed to marry personalized content, with dermatologist insights, to help our consumers understand their skin type and the type of moisturizers best suited for their skin,” Stephen Tiu, General Manager of Kenvue Malaysia and Singapore pointed out. “As a brand that is ever cognizant of our consumers’ needs, this is a creative and self-service way of digital engagement which elevates consumers' skincare knowledge.
