The Cost of the 340B Program to States
IQVIA is conducting a new study to estimate the cost of the 340B program to state healthcare purchasers, including employers, workers, and, for the first time, managed Medicaid programs. This work builds on IQVIA's ongoing research on the economic effects of the 340B program across the U.S. and refreshes our original study assessing the cost of 340B to states. Since that study, the 340B program has grown by more than 41%.
Estimates are based on drug claims and health plan premium data. The new study will include a white paper—summarizing data, methodology, findings, limitations, and conclusions—and 50 state summaries. It will provide state-level estimates to inform policymakers and stakeholders evaluating the impact of the 340B program.
Findings will be available in July 2026.
