Remember in the children’s book Alice in Wonderland when Alice is curious about the white rabbit and follows it down a rabbit hole? What she thinks will be a simple search ends up being a fantastical adventure on a long and winding journey that often has nothing to do with the white rabbit at all. If you have ever tried searching across disparate or unstructured sources for business insights, you can probably relate. It is easy to spend countless days logging into multiple platforms to manually review and extract relevant information, often pursuing a document for considerable time before determining that its insights are not relevant to your needs after all.

That’s why I’m so excited about the launch of the IQVIA Natural Language Processing (NLP) Insights Hub. The tool will significantly reduce inefficient, resource-intensive searches by serving as a single resource for seamlessly integrating disparate sources and delivering fast, reliable answers. With the NLP Insights Hub, insights from a spectrum of healthcare sources, from peer-reviewed journals to social media posts, are tapped into, to quickly bring important contextual information to the surface. With just a few clicks, users can get answers to their questions related to epidemiology, clinical insights, surveillance, and more. Every structured, easy-to-read dashboard output reflects domain expertise we embedded into the platform—meaning concepts and relationships are accurately interpreted. For greater detail, users also have the ability to drill down to the evidence contained within the underlying document sets.

Tapping a very deep well
“Either the well was very deep, or she fell very slowly, for she had plenty of time as she went down to look about her,” Alice’s story goes. The well of unstructured business information today is, in fact, very deep. Experts say that by 2022, this kind of information will make up 93 percent of available insights, leaving only seven percent readily curated for easy analysis. While the process of curating the rest manually is frustratingly slow, ignoring this wealth of data is not a smart business option.
