Real-World Evidence (RWE) can be used to generate insights on the effectiveness, safety, and value of healthcare interventions in real-world settings. RWE can inform decision-making by patients, providers, regulators, payers, and industry, and ultimately improve patient outcomes and health system performance.

But how can you access and leverage the rich and diverse sources of real-world data (RWD) available in France? How can you use innovative designs to optimize your study and enrich your evidence generation?

In this Insights Brief, we focus on France, a country that offers a unique and attractive health data ecosystem for RWE generation. We explore the features and benefits of the French National Health Data System (Système national des données de santé, SNDS), the largest claims database in Europe, which covers both primary and secondary care claims for 99% of the French population. We also discuss how the SNDS can be enriched with other sources of data, such as hospital data warehouses, registries, and cohorts, to create a robust RWE strategy. Finally, we share our recommendations and best practices for conducting successful RWE studies in France.
