Over the past 13 years, the HCP workforce has grown an average of 2-45%, varying by specialty. In comparison, nurse practitioners (NPs) and physician assistants (PAs) have experienced tremendous growth rates, with NPs seeing a remarkable 213% increase, and PAs a solid 133% growth during the same period. This paper suggests that traditional perceptions of NPs and PAs in modern healthcare need to be revised, and highlight their necessity.
