Richard Staub is in his second term as president of the Research & Development Solutions global business unit at IQVIA, where he leads the world’s largest contract research organization (CRO). Supported by high-powered information and technology assets, the clinical experts in R&D Solutions leverage comprehensive evidence-driven trial design, accelerate site activation and patient recruitment, and optimize trial execution.

Richard is a vastly experienced executive with 34 years in the life science sector and has held numerous senior executive roles across multiple contract research organizations.

Previously, Richard was senior advisor to Chairman & CEO of IQVIA. He supported IQVIA across several activities including strategic M&A, customer management and governance, leadership development and business development support.

From 2016 to 2022, Richard served as the president of the R&DS business unit at IQVIA. During his tenure Richard oversaw the rapid expansion of IQVIA’s clinical research capabilities and, critically, he successfully led this business unit through the unprecedented challenges of the COVID-19 global pandemic.

Prior to joining IQVIA, Richard was president of Novella Clinical, a specialty clinical research organization acquired by Quintiles in 2013. Joining Novella in 2004, he served as president and CEO for five years. Under his leadership, Novella became a distinctively agile, results oriented CRO in the highly complex and fast-growing areas of specialty pharma and medical technology.

Before joining Novella, Richard was senior vice president of global business development for one of the world’s largest CROs. Richard’s career in the pharmaceutical industry began at Zeneca Pharmaceuticals, where he was given increasing responsibilities as a medical and hospital sales representative, cardiovascular portfolio analyst and marketing manager.

Richard holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
