39 hospitals are recognized as the best in the country in the TOP 20 Awards

  • In this edition, a total of 140 centers from all over Spain participated, from 15 autonomous communities, 11 of them nominated.

Madrid, October 24, 2018 - This morning the names of the hospitals that have obtained one of the 63 TOP 20 awards granted each year by IASIST, an IQVIA company, have been announced. In this 19th edition, 39 award-winning hospitals come from 7 autonomous communities: Canarias, Castilla y León, Cataluña, Madrid, Murcia, País Vasco and Valencia.

The 27 centers with the best balance of results in all areas and clinical processes have been recognized as TOP in Global Hospital Management. Another 36 hospitals have been recognized for their service in one of the 8 clinical areas analyzed: Heart, Respiratory, Nervous System, Digestive, Skeletal Muscle, Kidney and Urinary Tract, Woman and Critical Patient Care. In this last area, the centers stood out for their treatment of critical patients who have required admission to Intensive Care Units.

This year, 140 hospitals (65.7% of the National Health System and 34.3% of private hospitals) voluntarily participated from 15 Autonomous Communities and, in 11 of them, there were nominated centers: Andalucía, Aragón, Baleares, Canarias, Castilla León , Catalonia, La Rioja, Madrid, Murcia, the Basque Country and Valencia.

68 hospitals and clinics accumulated 125 nominations, 58.8% (40) were nominated in a single category, 23.5% (16) chose two awards, and 17.6% (12) could win three or more TOP.

The event was attended by the Minister of Health, Government of the Canary Islands, José Manuel Baltar; the Deputy Minister of Health Assistance Community of Madrid, Fernando Prados; the General Director of Health Assistance Murciano Health Service, Roque Martínez; the Director of Health Care of Osakidetza, Andoni Arcelay; the Undersecretary of Health of the Valencian Community, Isabel Castellò; and the Technical Secretary of the Delegation of the Government of the Generalitat de Catalunya in Madrid, Gabriel Planella.

TOP 20: 19 years rewarding good results

Carles Illa, Principal Healthcare of IQVIA, affirms that "the objective of the program is to identify standards of good practice (benchmarks) in quality, functioning and economic efficiency and to recognize the work of the participating hospitals that have obtained the best results".

In the comparison process of the centers, the hospitals are not evaluated jointly, but establishing levels according to their size and degree of specialization. In the TOP of Global Hospital Management, public hospitals are classified into 4 groups, and private hospitals are classified in 3. In the clinical areas, different levels of classification of the centers are also established according to the portfolio of services and complexity.

The foundational foundations of the TOP 20 Hospital Program remain a voluntary, anonymous, free participation based exclusively on objective data of the hospitals presented.
