Adolescents who are living with a chronic health condition face unique challenges that can make it especially difficult for them to adhere to a prescribed treatment or healthcare regimen. While individual situations and responses will vary, there are common things that many teenagers. These challenges can be further compounded when the condition is rare, as much-needed social and system support is often not forthcoming with such diseases. In this paper, we explore these challenges and their impact, and also provide a series of recommendations on how support services can most effectively address the needs of this population, leveraging academic evidence along with insights and considerations from IQVIA digital, nurse, and behavioral science experts who are currently working with these groups.
